Description

RMS Queen Mary was a British ocean liner operated by the Cunard Line from 1936 to 1967. Built as one of Cunard’s famous “Queens,” she quickly gained renown for her speed, luxury, and transatlantic service between Southampton and New York. She won the prestigious Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic crossing and became one of the most celebrated liners of her era. During World War II, Queen Mary was converted into a troopship and transported Allied forces worldwide, including a record voyage carrying more than 16,600 people. After the war, she returned to passenger service alongside Queen Elizabeth, dominating Atlantic travel until the rise of jet airliners. Retired in 1967, she was permanently moored in Long Beach, California, where she remains today as a hotel, museum, and historic landmark.
